“In September 2015, the United Nations unanimously adopted Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These Strategic Development Goals (SDGs) frame the global agenda for the next 15 years,” said Meg Gardinier, Secretary General of ChildFund Alliance. “We are well positioned to build on our experience and play a key role in achieving this vision. In our strategic plan, we make a commitment to do all we can to prevent violence at all levels; protect children from violence; and enable children to meaningfully participate in decisions affecting their lives.”

The plan focuses on three priorities that will help guide ChildFund Alliance’s work over the next five years as it pursues its mission to protect children from violence and exploitation and enable them to participate in decisions that affect their lives, realize their rights and achieve their potential.

Strategic Priority One: Global Advocacy and Child-Friendly Accountability

  • Advance Sustainable Development Goal target 16.2 (End abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence against and torture of children) and related targets through global, regional and national advocacy and engagement.
  • Support children in holding their governments and local authorities accountable to their commitments in SDG target 16.2.

Strategic Priority Two: Improve our capacity for Child Protection in Emergencies and Disaster Risk Reduction

  • Prioritize key child protection in emergencies interventions in all humanitarian response
  • Mainstream disaster risk reduction into regular programming and community development
  • Build on successful youth-led disaster risk reduction

Strategic Priority Three: Strengthen Membership Engagement and Growth

  • Recruit new members to expand the Alliance’s global reach and expertise.

“ChildFund Alliance is extremely well positioned to decisively improve the lives of children in need,” said Michael Rose, chairman of the board of ChildFund Alliance. “As an Alliance, we can join forces to maximize impact, leverage resources, access governments and donors, reduce risk and achieve greater results for children.”

To inform development of the strategic plan, Ms. Gardinier said ChildFund Alliance solicited input from a wide range of stakeholders through a series of in-person and online consultations with the Alliance’s board of directors, CEOs of the Alliance’s 11 member organizations and staff around the world.

Over the next five years, ChildFund Alliance leadership will evaluate the organization’s progress in meeting the objectives laid out in the strategic plan, which will be a living document that will be open to refinements throughout its life-cycle.
