ChildFund Australia in Vanuatu

Vanuatu is an archipelago of more than 80 islands, most of which are populated. It is also one of the most disaster prone nations in the South Pacific, facing annual cyclones, earthquakes and resulting tsunamis, as well as volcanic eruptions.

Most families live in rural areas, and rely on subsistence farming. However, climate change is having a serious and detrimental impact on food production, largely due to saltwater intrusion. Malaria and waterborne disease present serious health risks for children, with many rural communities without access to safe water and sanitation. Education levels also remain low, with few children completing primary education.

In Vanuatu, ChildFund supports the work of its partner Live & Learn, which delivers projects in education, water and sanitation, and environmental care and education.
