WeWorld in Nicaragua

Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries globally and second to Haiti in Latin America. In recent years, levels of gender-based violence have also increased dramatically.

WeWorld has been active in Nicaragua since 1984, and is partnering with local women's associations to prevent violence, promote the rights of girls and women, and implement behavior change projects which reduce discriminatory behaviour.

In the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region, WeWorld is implementing a number of environmental initiatives. This includes the creation of a waste management system based on recycling practices which offers new job opportunities to vulnerable communities.

In Matagalpa, a region impacted by frequent drought and vulnerable to food insecurity, WeWorld is providing assistance to children and families in the areas of nutrition and health.
