EDUCO in Bangladesh

Child exploitation is one of the most serious issues in Bangladesh.

It is estimated that almost 8 million children aged between 5-17 years work in dangerous conditions for extremely low wages. It is not uncommon to see children employed in textile factories, metal workshops, the shoe industry, and mining. Many also scrape together an income by selling discarded junk and scraps.

Young people are also vulnerable to a range of preventable illnesses, due to the widespread lack of sanitary facilities and below-standard living conditions. Many children are exposed to infectious and respiratory disease.

Educo has worked in Bangladesh since 2001, implementing a range of education programs in more than 250 schools in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Thakurgaon, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Cox's Bazar.
