Over the past few months, several European Council as well as Justice and Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Council meetings have been convened to discuss and develop immediate responses and policies to address the recent increase in migrants and refugees arriving to Europe.
Governments from all over the world gathered in New York recently to adopt the new Global Goals for Sustainable Development and a new Global Partnership to end violence against children was launched.
ChildFund Alliance, Plan International, Save the Children, SOS Children’s Villages International, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, and World Vision International co-hosted a side-event entitled ‘Building a world that is safer for children,’ where the partnership was announced.
In the past three years, ChildFund Alliance has engaged with over 16,000 children across 50 countries, capturing their aspirations and thoughts about the new global goals. World leaders listened and agreed on a vision of a world which “...invests in its children and in which every child grows up free from violence and exploitation.” This side-event was a celebration of this major breakthrough for millions of children, as well as their role as agents of change in sustainable development.

In 2014 ChildFund joined with Airlink, a rapid-response relief organization that links airlines with nonprofits, and other partners in a CGI Commitment to Action to build an Air Bridge to West Africa. Through this collaboration, ChildFund helped to fill three planes with critically needed medical supplies and was one of the first organizations to equip teams on the ground to take action in the hardest-hit areas of Liberia and Sierra Leone.

ChildFund Alliance welcomes the news that a panel has been established to investigate the UN’s response to allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse of children by foreign military forces in the Central African Republic.
BRUSSELS, 25 June 2015 – Child focused aid agencies are calling for the EU to lead by example during negotiations taking place in New York on a new global development framework, and to ensure investments in children are prioritised in a document to be agreed at a UN Financing for Development conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in July.
