A show of hands for a world free from violence and exploitation for children

As the clock ticks down to the next UN summit when world leaders adopt new global goals*, ChildFund Alliance are calling on people everywhere for a Show of Hands in support of their campaign ‘free from violence and exploitation.’

ChildFund Alliance created their worldwide campaign to ensure that the protection of children from violence and exploitation would become a global priority. They therefore consulted with 16,000 children across 50 countries, capturing their aspirations and thoughts about the new global goals.

World leaders listened and agreed on a vision of a world which “…invests in its children and in which every child grows up free from violence and exploitation.” (Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, paragraph 8)

In celebration of this major breakthrough, ChildFund Alliance have gathered over a thousand handprints from children and adults worldwide and will launch them today through digital and social media as a live visual collage called ‘Show of Hands’ at www.freefromviolence.org.

The handprints take the form of a green butterfly, the symbol of the campaign. The organisation are asking more people to join via Instagram by posting pictures of their hands in this pose and tagging them #FreeFromViolence.

This moving collage will also include direct quotes from the children, together with a countdown to the day when the global goals will be adopted.

Meg Gardinier, Secretary General of ChildFund Alliance said “ChildFund Alliance will continue to ensure that children are fully engaged as these global goals are translated into action, empowering them to contribute to a world where they are 'free from violence and exploitation.'”
