The United Republic of Tanzania is one of the largest countries in Africa. It comprises mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, which is made up of the Islands of Unguja and Pemba.

Reducing poverty and maternal mortality remain key development challenges. Recent economic growth and greater national wealth have benefited very few of the population. Tanzania has made little progress towards reducing extreme hunger and malnutrition; the 2017 Global Hunger Index ranks the situation as serious. Children in rural areas suffer from substantially higher rates of malnutrition and chronic hunger than those in urban areas, although urban/rural disparities have narrowed with regard to both stunting and underweight.

Tanzania's fast-growing population of 43 million is highly dependent on the environment and natural resources for their livelihoods. In this context, ChildFund Korea is preparing an integrated community development project in Mvomero district, Morogoro region with local partners. We aim to improve children's access to quality education and a protected environment.

ChildFund Korea is also conducting a national-level advocacy project empowering children to hold governments and local leaders accountable to their obligations to end all violence against children.
