WeWorld in Burundi

WeWorld has been present in Burundi since 1994, implementing projects related to water, nutrition, socio-economic development, and health.

Burundi has one of the highest malnutrition rates in the world. Due to inadequate food practices, children suffer from a chronic micronutrient deficiency, which can have a detrimental impact on children's physical and intellectual development.

WeWorld has established FARN centers (from the French Foyers d'Apprentissage et de Réhabilitation Nutritionnels), which provide care for children and give mothers and the local community tools to manage children's health and nutrition needs.

In the Eastern regions, WeWorld is also collaborating with local health centers. In 2017, this included partnering with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to improve health care for returnees, refugees, and asylum-seekers from the Democratic Republic of Congo. WeWorld implemented a program aimed at strengthening health services in five refugee camps, assuring health care for thousands of people.
